Quote :
United manager happy with squad

Sir Alex Ferguson has revealed that he is not planning 'wholesale buying' at the end of the season as he is happy with his squad.

The Manchester United manager decided not to bring in too many reinforcements after selling Cristiano Ronaldo to Real Madrid for £80million last summer.

Some reports have suggested that the transfer budget is earmarked to pay off part of the loans taken out by the Glazer family to complete their controversial takeover in 2005.

But club officials, including Ferguson, have insisted it is his decision alone how he wants to spend the funds available to him.

And Ferguson, who has recently tied the likes of Nani and both Da Silva twins - Rafael and Fabio - to new deals, does not believe he needs to make too many signings this summer.
Ideas

"No wholesale buying is needed as we have a very good squad that just needs tweaking here and there," he told Inside United.

"Looking at potential squad additions is an ongoing process - it is not just confined to a certain time of year - although we obviously don't reveal our plans.

"We have some ideas at the moment but not many players will be joining the club.

"In any case, I think the transfer market prices have been terribly inflated over the last year."

Inflation....very true.
So SAF is happy with the squad.
Even I dont think we need any more players.
As anderson and hargo will be back we wont be need much players.
Plus we have a good strike force.

Of course we don't need wholesale changes but there are changes required.

I wouldn't call our strike force ideal by any chance. Owen will get injured again, I have no doubts. Macheda is still too young and we'll probably be better off giving him few games a season. We only have Rooney and Berba at the moment who can be termed as reliable. So I'd say we might be in for a striker but if Fergie thinks Macheda/Diouf are ready next season then fair enough.

Now we NEED a central midfielder and possibly a winger. The latter might not be a must but we simply cannot afford to have the midfield like this seasons especially with Scholes and Giggs growing a year old. Except Fletcher our center mid hasn't been the strongest. Carrick has been off form plenty of times and Scholes and Giggs have had a few shockers as well. Park for all his hard work is very limited. We need a mid who can contribute with a few goals and help Fletcher in the middle to control the game which Carrick hasn't been able to do. And no we can't rely on Hargreaves who has been injured for two seasons. Anderson does well in a three man center mid but again I can't see him dominate the play, not yet anyway.

No changes required for defence.

We must start looking for a keeper. PIG is in between I think. I don't think he's good enough to be our first choice long term but he's an excellent back up. Van Der Sar is fantastic as ever and will be next season too but wouldn't hurt us if we start looking.

I dont think a keeper is required this season.
VDS is doing good.
PIG is a good backup and I think SAF might just give foster a chance too in the coming season.

Defense is good.

And as for strike force WR10 and DB9 are doing pretty well.
Owen is bound to injuries but he still can make it.
Macheda has a bright future and diouf is good, not great.

Now the main problem...Mid

see fletcher and carrick are doing well.
anderson is pretty good.
on wings we have nani valencia park (he plays on the wings sometimes) and for a backup we have obertan.
and we have gibson too
hargo is defensive mid
no one can replace scholes and giggs, although we might need a left footer who plays on the left

I never said keeper was necessary next season. We should look into it though.

Owen can make it if he's injured? I don't think so. If Rooney gets injured in some important games, I don't see any of the other strikers we have who can perform as much as I like Berbatov, sadly.

You haven't seen Carrick for most parts this season I think. He hasn't been consistent nor has he been brilliant in any of the games. Anderson is young and I don't think he's up to the mark yet to be playing consistently for us and dominate teams. Playing okay-ish is okay and you can get away with it in the league games against okay oppositions but we've been pretty crap in so many games this season and midfield has been the main reason for that.

Gibson is okay. I don't expect him to be at Old Trafford for many years. I hope I'm wrong.

And stop wanking on about Hargreaves. The two things he'll be remembered for as a United player are his freekick against Arse and playing in the CL final.

So no one can replace Scholes and Giggs? That means we don't buy? Yeah right.
rolleyes

No one is saying we need to get like for like.....but we need to replace them.

1. why look into it now when not needed? tongue
2. see if we buy a striker he will be off sitting on the bench for most of the season.
if owen is not injured I think SAF might play him more cause he is number 7 shifty
3. I know carrick has been a bit off lately but generally he plays good and I think he will perform now,he just needs some time off. and not that he is playing pathetic or something, but low according to his standards
anderson is good.he plays well against big teams too.
gibson...well his future will be seen in the futute tongue
and also another thing, hargo is an england player shifty

and I didnt mean that not to buy I just meant they are irreplaceable.
obviously we have to buy tongue

Make sure you bring in the cloths, chemicals and everything to polish them up rolleyes

The squad's good but it requires changes. Our performance has dropped considerably since the last year. 7 losses in the league, out in FA cup third round should give you a clue that changes are needed.

Changes ARE needed. It's one thing being confident of one's squad that it can win trophies, but another thing to not strengthen it given an opportunity. Inflation, SAF said, that deterred him from spending money last summer, that he was not getting value for money, that's fine. But if we are able to get a good deal for a player, then not getting him will be foolishness.

Indulging in a little gossip, Transfer Mill has started again after our exit, as it always does for any team, and BIG names are being touted. The likes of David Villa, David Silva, Arjen Robben (YES!, Even him lol), and all kinds of other players.

But since Utd don't have a history of buying many established superstars, I doubt any of those will go through. What might go through are deals for players like Steven Defour, or Alexis Sanchez, maybe even Douglas Costa this time around. Just like Chris Smalling - NOT Giorgio Chiellini, like many of the Orkut/FB people were suggesting, "should" Vidic leave. rofl He's said it again and again, he wont.

It's too early to compare him to Van Nistelrooy. He hasn't even played much for us.

I think he has only started two games in the premier league. Hull City away last season and Blackburn way.

I don't know about the Carling Cup games but he did start in the FA cup semi last season I think.
