PostSubject: Da Silvas back for Hull trip   Fri Dec 25, 2009 9:59 pm

Quote :
Rafael and Fabio will be back to boost United's depleted defence against Hull on Sunday, Sir Alex Ferguson confirmed at Thursday's press conference.

Rafael has been sidelined since the home defeat to Besiktas last month with a foot injury, while Fabio returned from the bench at Fulham last week. Both Da Silva twins are set to be thrust into action at the KC Stadium to bolster a threadbare backline.

"We rushed Fabio back a little bit, but given the situation we find ourselves in sometimes you have to do that," admitted the boss. "Rafa's only trained for a few days but he will be involved on Sunday."

Sir Alex also confirmed Wes Brown and Nemanja Vidic should both be available for the home game against Wigan on 30 December, and that the Reds' medical team are working to get one of the centre-backs fit for this weekend.

"We're trying to get one of them fit for Sunday, but we'll have to see," added Sir Alex. "The young boy [Ritchie] De Laet did okay in the last game at Fulham until we lost the first goal.

"The power and the strength of [Bobby] Zamora made things difficult for us and we looked fragile from then on. It's understandable in a way - you can get away with playing midfielders at centre-back once or twice, but it proved to be very difficult for us at Fulham."

The United boss is expecting an equally tough game against an improving Tigers side, saying: "Hull will be encouraged by our injury problems, and I'm sure they'll have a go at us.

"We have to make sure we are better attacking-wise than we were at Fulham. We had quite a bit of possession, but didn't make a lot of chances. We have to improve the imagination of our play on Sunday."

Maybe now there will be some stability in the back 4..
of course, until the likes of evans and vidic and brown and ferdi dont return, its still pretty weak..
Also brown and vidic expected back on 30 th...
so something to look forward to..

Rafael Carrick Evra Fabio

That's a defence on the very short side apart from Carrick who is a CM but Hull strikers aren't exactly tall, are they? They play Fagan and Geovani, don't they?

Let's hope and pray we score more than them

I don't think we'll rush Vidic in if he isn't 70%+ fit. It's no point risking him for the Hull game. We better give him two more days before the midweek game. It's against Burnley at home I think.

Evra as a CB?
I dont think so.
Plus Fergie said De laet is doing good so he has high chances of playing and evra will 95% play at LB.
Fabio will be RB and vidic/brown as CB

But both are out injured, surely you know they can't play when they haven't recovered sufficiently?

Why don't you keep your stupid remarks to the lounge?

This isn't the place for it and neither do I want it to become another Lounge.

Evra finished the game at CB, the West Ham game i think, so he might be asked to deputise there again, for De Laet, although is doing well acc to fergie, is young and inexperienced. And since we want 3 points more than anything else out of this game, i dont think he should be risked.

Brown and Vidic = very very very little chance. as said in the quote, they are expected back for the 30th dec game (burnley or wigan? unsure ) ...

So, in my opinion, Rafael/De Laet-Carrick-Evra/De Laet-Fabio/Evra/De Laet ..

Also, I think Fletch might play in CM now, and do something a little more productive goals-wise.

can you dig it? tongue

rofl at the bold part

Neither Brown or Vidic will be back. And I can't really see us playing both the twins looking at Fergie's comments. Hull play a bit physical and playing both would mean trouble as they are pretty lightweight and shaky at defending. We'll have to risk playing De Laet or sacrifice Fletch and play him at RB/CB.

------------------------------------

@ Vishal.....I'm sure he meant 30th Dec.

I assume Geovani plays as a striker for Hull. He used to play as a part of the midfield for Man City under Sven I think. Hasselink is tall, yeah. Has Hull played him that much this season? I haven't watched a single game where Hull have played him.

He used to play for PSV and Celtic if I remember correctly.

Altidore?

Haven't heard of him to be honest. Has he played any game for Hull? Has been even remotely effective?

Wiki says he is 6ft 1inch so a big lad nevertheless.

Edit: Just saw his stats.....Has started 6 games and came on as a sub in 7 games. No goals biggrin

Only 1 goal this season in the only league cup appearance.
